All of these classes are open to keen writers in Years 7-13

Artefacts: Stories of Living and Learning
Join us as we explore artefacts found and curated by the Christchurch Archaeology Project. We will collect words, images and ideas to inspire our writing as we respond to the past and look to the future.
This event is free thanks to support from The Christchurch Heritage Festival and Christchurch Libraries.
The classes run over three separate dates to reach the maximum number of young writers. Schools/ Individuals may only book one date for up to 4 students.

Worldbuilding
​
Whether you're creating historical fiction, contemporary horror, or a fantasy world that only exists in your reader's head, creating a setting for your story is crucial. Learn how to build worlds that feel real and detailed through a series of collaborative and individual exercises, and leave with a piece grounded in a world of your own creation. This class filled fast when we offered it earlier in the year in Christchurch. Don't miss out. Book soon.

Your Tutors
​
Heather McQuillan is a writer and teacher. She writes for young readers as well as writing award-winning short fiction and poetry. Her latest novel, Avis and The Call of the Kraken, will be released in early 2024.
​
Philomena Johnson is a graduate of Hagley Writers’ Institute. She is a writer of poetry and is currently working on a verse novel for young readers.
​
By day, Claire Wright writes guidance documents. By night, she writes funky horror, fantasy, and sci-fi stories, with a splash of romance. Currently, she is working on two projects: a new urban fantasy novel and an interactive fiction novel.
​
Karen Healey is a novelist who specialises in YA fiction. Her debut novel, Guardians of the Dead, was published in 2009 to critical acclaim. In 2011, she released the supernatural thriller The Shattering, followed by the dystopian fantasy When We Wake (2013) and its sequel, While We Run (2014) Karen has recently stepped away from full-time teaching to see where her writing can take her.
