​All of the Feels POETRY COMPETITION:
Exploring our feelings and emotions through writing is worthwhile and allows for insight and reflection.
Your challenge is to choose one emotion and make it a theme of your poetic entry.
But here’s the twist: You cannot name the emotion directly.
Let readers feel it through:
Imagery: What colours, textures, sounds, or sensations capture the feeling?
Metaphor and Symbols: How might the emotion live in an object, a place, a season, or a small gesture?
Voice and Sounds: Does the emotion whisper or roar? Stutter or flow?
Perspective: Is the poet confronting it, escaping it, embracing it, or remembering it?
Let your readers recognise the emotion without being told what it is.

There are some changes to our competition for Issue 66. We’ve had requests from many students who are older than Year 10 asking to be included, and we’re happy to oblige! For Issue 66, the age groups will be Year 4-6, Year 7-9 and Year 10-13.

All submissions must be via our online form using the ENTER NOW button above.

Please take a moment to check your writing- is it your very best work?

The All of the Feels poetry competition is limited to 32 lines, not including the title

Ask a teacher or parent to read it over and give you some feedback.

Please format your work in size 12, Times New Roman, black.

No pictures or illustrations, please - let your words create the pictures.

Please ensure your entry's title is at the top of your page.

All entries will be judged blind, so please do not include your name or school anywhere on your entry.

Work can be entered as .doc or .pdf files only.

Please make sure you pay your entry fee. This goes towards paying the judges. We are a charitable organisation. Please pay your entry fee ($6.00 per individual entry, or $30.00 for every six entries from a school to our Bank Account: The School for Young Writers 03 1704 0036137 000 Code: Your young writer's name (individuals) or your school’s name (groups) Reference: COMPETITION. Schools with multiple entries may request an invoice.

No simultaneous submissions - please don’t send your writing to another publication or competition until after March 10, 2026

If you are selected as a winner, we may make small edits before publication.

Winning entries will be published in Write On Issue 66, July 2026. Winners will be contacted in early March.
No correspondence will be entered into. The judges’ decision is final.
