We are delighted to release these voices into the world.
This year, as part of our Fresh Voices project, we were able to facilitate writing workshops at two Ōtautahi Christchurch secondary schools, where our tutors worked with young people in Years 9-13.
Most of these rangatahi had never participated in a writers' workshop before, and they weren't even sure if they were "writers" let alone "poets"!
Our fabulous tutors, Josiah and Gail, supported them to develop a portfolio of writing that is meaningful to them, exploring their identity, experiences, thoughts and feelings. The young writers then selected a piece to record and share on this site.
More 2025 writing from Tamariki (Years 4-8) can be found here.
Nga mihi nui to the schools who participated in this project and the champion teachers who supported their young writers.
Going to the recording studio is often a daunting but uplifting experience for our rangatahi. Our thanks to Plains Media! We acknowledge your team for their incredible mahi in recording and broadcasting these fresh voices. Our young writers have been empowered by your kindness and expertise.
Ngā mihi to Rātā Foundation and Creative Communities Christchurch for their funding support of this project.
