This year, the Beca Christchurch Heritage Festival is running from October 7th to 28th. Across Christchurch and beyond, children and students are participating in events depicting and honouring Christchurch’s past and history.
This year’s theme—encounter our stories—marks the 250th anniversary of when the Māori and Pākehā had their first onshore meetings. The theme circles around the stories, the challenges and everything in between for people around Aotearoa New Zealand, both past and present.
We’re honoured to have our workshops sponsored by the Beca Christchurch Heritage Festival, so young writers can write stories about the past, the present and the future of Christchurch, as well as our place in all of it.
That’s why we’ll be showcasing student writing pieces made in the Beca Christchurch Heritage Festival workshops. These poems and short stories highlight how we life back in the day stacks up now—and how we continue to evolve together now.
Thanks again to the Beca Christchurch Heritage Festival and Tūranga for sponsoring the Heritage workshops. We couldn’t do it without your support.
