by Samaya, Year 8
Pine trees tower over me
and through the branches
small pockets of sunlight
cascade
like a waterfall
down to my level,
on the pine needle path.
A falcon soars up into the vast sky
and at a far distance
a black beetle crawls
down the bark of a tree.
What we noticed:
This poem is all about taking notice! It is the interesting details that the poet alerts us to that give this poem its power - the pockets of sunlight, the black beetle at a far distance. We also loved the verb choices ( we are verbophiles at Write On) tower, cascade, soars, crawls.
