We are delighted to be offering our 8th Summer Writing School and once again we have some stellar tutors ready to inspire, guide and mentor young writers. Come and join in our welcoming community of writers.

a. Get Creative with Non-Fiction
Tutor: Josiah Morgan
Explore the beautiful in the boring, the poetry in the mundane and the humour in everyday situations. If you've ever thought non-fiction was a bit boring, this is the class for you to discover a whole new world of possibility! This class is now full.

b. Wrangling Rhyme ONE DAY WORKSHOP OPTION STILL AVAILABLE
Tutor: Joanna Preston
A workshop looking at different types of rhyme, and different forms that use rhyme. Get into the flow and rhythm of words!

Tuesday, January 16th

a. Decisions and Deviations- creating characters with minds of their own!
Tutor: Heather McQuillan
Follow the lead of your newly-formed character as they encounter critical moments of decision and then deviate from where you planned to send them! This class is now full.

b. The Third Voice ONE DAY WORKSHOP OPTION STILL AVAILABLE
​Tutor: Mena Johnson
In this workshop, you will team up and write collaboratively exploring poetry and short prose. Discover the third voice that is neither yours nor your collaborator’s which will lead to new thought processes, ideas and experimentation in your writing even when you are writing solo.

Tutor: Melanie Dixon
Write non-human characters. Get inside the skin of other creatures- discover new voices and what they have to say.

b. The experiment experience ONE DAY WORKSHOP OPTION STILL AVAILABLE
Tutor: Josiah Morgan
Explore different experimental forms of writing in both poetry and prose. Liberate yourself from restrictions and learn how restrictions can be liberating!

Thursday, January 18th

a. Vile Villains
​Tutor: Desna Wallace
Forget those heroes and heroines! Create a backstory as to why your villain is so bad and discover if they can redeem themselves. This class is now full.

b. Make your Words Sing ONE DAY WORKSHOP OPTION STILL AVAILABLE
Tutor: Regan Kupu Stokes
A workshop where your words will turn into song. Learn the basics of songwriting. This is a class for anyone - even if you have never touched an instrument before.

Friday, January 19th
10:00 to 12:00: Redrafting and 1:1 mentoring
Work in small groups to develop and redraft works in progress. Time will be allocated for 1:1 mentoring with one of the tutors.
​
1:00 to 3:30: Celebration of writing * family and friends welcome
Panel discussion/ performance readings from the tutors
Open mic sharing of work
Snacks and Chat

Fees
Full week = $325
One day fee= $65 per day
​
Fully refundable if COVID-19 intervenes.
