Write On 54: Voices is launched

Last week we launched the 54th edition of Write On Magazine- a magazine full of fabulous writing by young New Zealanders.

Some of the young writers who came out of a blustery winter's night in Ōtautahi Christchurch to share in the joy of publication and read their work loud and clear!

Altogether there are 56 young writers from around New Zealand published in this edition with poems, articles, short stories, monologues, excerpts or reviews.

For this issue, we saved one special page to feature a young-at-heart writer! We wanted to celebrate the wonderful contribution James Norcliffe has made to our school and publications over 27 years. We were delighted to have James launch the magazine and share a new poem with us. The poem GRANDMOTHER EEL OF WHAT ARE YOU DREAMING? is published in Issue 54 along with a prompt for young poets. Thank you for sharing this treasure with our readers, James.

Although James had requested no fuss, there was a little fuss! Including a collaborative poem about flies written by James' final Saturday class, which garnered the desired response! James has written his own poem about his distaste for flies!

Write On Director Heather McQuillan, Write on Chairperson Margaret Wilson Boyle, James Norcliffe, Write On Editor Rachel Douglass

A huge thank you to a wonderful editorial team, tutors, teachers, parents and supporters. Together you have given voice to young writers.

And thank you to the young writers for writing compelling, clever, surprising, entertaining and mesmerising words.
