A Breeder in Burwood, 1893

BY ISABELLA HARNEISS, YEAR 9, AVONSIDE GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL

Swampy waste land

rimu on the edges

Mr George King looks down

at fluffy chicks and shells of eggs

buried in the grass

Around him, he is surrounded by

his friends:

the ostriches.

This poem is a part of the Beca Christchurch Heritage Festival series, for those pieces of writing created in the workshops sponsored by the Christchurch Heritage Festival and Tūranga.
